The story of Rock of Ages in Laguna Woods Village has its roots in a group originally called Dutch of Fiz, formed by Dutch Fisser. Early performances took place in Clubhouse 3’s utility room, and the band gradually built a following with its mix of classic rock, pop, and Motown.
Drummers Jerry Self and Ron Gagnon alternated in the early days, with Ron eventually becoming the full-time drummer. At the time, the band operated under the name Dutch of Fiz for most gigs—both inside and outside the Village—unless Ron booked the performance, in which case the name Rock of Ages was used.

Dutch led the band through this era, until he and Bill Hemberger who became the drummer with ROA eventually created another band, The Woods Combo. Around this time, Ron officially took Rock of Ages forward as its own identity, marking the true beginning of Rock of Ages as a band within Laguna Woods Village.
Lyle Sanders was part of Dutch of Fiz from the very beginning and later joined Rock of Ages as a guitarist. Joe Ritkes also played with Dutch of Fiz early on before becoming a permanent member of Rock of Ages.
Notably, it was Dutch of Fiz that performed at Laguna Woodstock, a memorable milestone in the Village’s music scene.
The current lineup includes:
- Lyle Sanders – Guitar
- Mark Hardy – Rhythm Guitar & Vocals
- Jeff Sinclair – Lead Vocals
- Joe Ritkes – Bass & Vocals
- Allan Brown – Drums
With a deep respect for its roots and a passion for performance, Rock of Ages remains a cherished part of the Laguna Woods Village music community.
